14) O que ver na Itália em vinte dias de trem? NÁPOLES
Fourteenth day, Naples. Today, after having breakfast, we will leave Liguria to go to Campania. With the Freccia Bianca train, we will go to the Napoli Centrale station, and then we will visit the outskirts of the city. We will spend the night in Naples.
As soon as we arrive in Naples we will leave the luggage at the hotel and, after resting for a while, we will take a stroll through the charming Neapolitan streets. Naples is one of those cities where you can go back ten times and still enter with the smile of seeing something new, a city that appeals to everyone: it has sea, culture, nature, fun and, above all, a city with delicious cuisine – and we’re not just talking about pizza, but also fish and sweets.

In addition, the main characteristic is the people, their joy and particularity. The tour can start at via Roma, full of shops, a boardwalk until you reach Plebiscito Square, with its beautiful church and the San Carlo Theater. Moving on, we reach the beach; we must not forget to pass by Maschio Angioino, one of the most prominent castles of the city, which dominates the scenery of the Municipio Square and the Castle of the Egg (the oldest castle in Naples, located in the San Ferdinando district, in Chiaia ). 15) What to see in Italy in twenty days by train? CAPRI
Fifteenth day, Capri. After having breakfast, this morning we are going to the island of Capri. We go by sea, taking the ferry from Naples; the crossing lasts 40 minutes. To get off the beaches of Capri, we must go to the Beverello Pier in Naples (if we take the train, we can take it in the square in front of the station). The island of Capri is one of the most loved tourist destinations in Italy. This beautiful island, located in the Gulf of Naples, offers each visitor unforgettable natural landscapes and a temperate climate in any season (because of the sea’s surface). Nobody is indifferent to the clear sea of crystal-clear waters, the shops of typical products and the rocks (better known as faraglioni).
Options for touring the island
I advise you to go with comfortable shoes, because in Capri we will take long walks – this is the ideal method to go all the way and admire the natural view of the island (besides, the sharp curves are always full of stairs that serve as precious shortcuts). An alternative is also to use the famous and typical cable car, which takes us straight to the main square. There are also minibuses, taxis and the cable car, which are excellent means of transportation to reach any part of the island (but remember that Capri is very expensive). TIPS ON CAPRI?
Attractions
The most famous parts of nature are the rocks – three huge rocks that rise in the sea . The central place, on the other hand, is the large Capri Square, where all the daily life and nightlife of the island takes place (meeting point and rest for all tourists and caiçaras). Less trendy, but certainly worthwhile, is the center of Anacapri, where you can relax in the quiet colorful streets. Other places of great interest are the Augustus Gardens and Via Krupp, all flowering. However, before leaving the island, it is customary to dine there and taste the “caprese pie”, a flourless cake, based on almonds and chocolate – typical of Capri. Then we’ll go back to Naples.
16) What to see in Italy in twenty days by train? CASERTA
Sixteenth day, Caserta: After a good breakfast, we leave the city of Naples to go to Caserta (with the regional train, it takes a little over 40min). A comfortable city with easy access everywhere, thanks to its strategic position in relation to the road stretches of the region . Very popular and known for its famous Royal Palace, considered the “Italian Versailles”. In addition, it has a number of other interesting monuments to visit.
Attractions
The visit to Caserta begins, of course, with the Royal Palace and the Park , European works of art from the 18th century – we have already said about the grandeur of this work above. The city also has a significant historic center. Piazza Duomo, the city’s religious center, houses the Cathedral, the church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (linked to the Carmelite convent), the church of St Sebastian (one of the oldest places of worship in the city) and the Chapel of St John. Seventeenth day, Rome. We are almost done with our tour. Today, we will leave Naples to go to Rome, with the Freccia Argento Economy train, and reach the capital and end the tour of Italy in great style.
Rome is one of those cities that we must visit at least once in our lives. There are some things that we cannot miss and that is what we are going to do – even if in one day and a half we will visit a few things, we will consider it as a taste, and then deepen in another trip to the capital . The first thing to see is one of the symbols of Rome: t he Colosseum – it is the most famous amphitheater in history, of which only part remains, but it is still incredible. A nother building that is worth seeing is the Trevi Fountain, one of the most famous fountains in the world (and the protagonist of so many films).
Regarding religious buildings, you cannot miss the Pantheon (the temple dedicated to all gods). That’s it for today, let’s have dinner in one of the typical restaurants in Rome and go to sleep, tomorrow will be the last day of our tour. Eighteenth Day, Rome. We will have breakfast and soon we will see other must-see things in Rome.
St. Peter’s Basilica
We will start the morning with St. Peter’s Basilica, the majestic and extraordinary cathedral, with its beautiful square. It is good to remember that the visit to the interior of the church has a queue of hours to wait and our time does not allow it. Another church worth seeing in Rome is the church of St. John in Lateran, along with that of Santa Maria Maggiore (“St Mary Major”).
Rome is one of the most beautiful and oldest cities in the world. It is the capital of Italy and can boast an ancient history, ranging from all major events to art, literature, cuisine and cinema.
Sant´Angelo Castle
Walking around Rome is an opportunity to have fun, enjoying the architectural beauty and so many other things that the city offers. Going towards the Tiber River, we can visit the Sant’Angelo Castle , made to be a mausoleum and later, over the centuries, it was transformed into a prison (which still preserves some cells with instruments of torture) and a weapons museum. Crossing the Tiber, passing through the Sant’Angelo Bridge, we arrive at the Capitol (headquarters of Rome City Hall). With another walk on the banks of the Tiber River, we arrive at the Museum of Ara Pacis, which also contains the famous monument of Augustus. At this time, we deserve a stop for a good dinner and then rest.
19) What to see in Italy in twenty days by train? ASSISI OR CASCIA
Nineteenth Day, Assisi or Cascia. This morning, after breakfast, we will make an exception in the script and go to Assisi or Cascia (with the regional train) and in the evening, we will return to Rome – where we will spend the last day of our tour.
About Assisi
The city of Umbria, related mainly to the famous St. Francis of Assisi, is a very pleasant city to visit. The heart of Assisi , its essence, is the presence of the Basilica dedicated to Saint Francis, built in the 13th century by order of Pope Gregory IX. The imposing complex consists of two opposite parts: a low, dark church at the bottom and a vertical and illuminated church at the top.
From the Basilica, I advise you to continue along the long Via San Francesco to reach the Plaza de la Prefeitura – a medieval-style building. Next to it, is the Temple of Minerva, the ancient Roman sanctuary of the 1st century BC From here, I advise you to stop at some canteen in the historic center for lunch (most of them also decorated in medieval style), so we can try the typical local products like pecorino cheese and the truffle.
About Cascia
Another option for that day is to go to Cascia , a small town in Umbria, known for being the place where St Rita lived (that is why the city has become a pilgrimage destination for several faithful). Located in wooded Umbria, in the province of Perugia, Cassia receives thousands of devotees of the saint every year.
All the faithful in this place look for the signs of her life, her faith and her miracles. Near Cascia is Roccaporena, the place where St Rita was born and spent her life, before entering the convent of Cascia. Here, it is possible to visit the house where she lived, the garden and the place where she used to retire to pray. In short, for those who believe and for those looking for a place to find peace and faith, the places in St Rita’s life are certainly a great choice. At this point, we will stop for dinner and return to Rome for a well-deserved rest.
20) What to see in Italy in twenty days by train? ROME
Twentieth day, Rome. This is our last day and we will dedicate it entirely to Rome, until the night (when we go to the airport and then return to reality – but certainly in a different mood). Today we will focus on the wonderful squares of the city and take the opportunity to do some shopping, strolling in the heart of the city. The other squares that you cannot miss are Piazza di Spagna and Piazza Navona. Piazza di Spagna got its name because it houses the Embassy of Spain and is famous for its staircase that leads to the church of Trinity of the Mountains. Piazza Navona links to the name of an emperor, as it was the “Domitian Stadium”. Now we see it with the transformations of the Baroque period.
Going to the Airport or going to Trastevere
The night of the last day (obviously, if your flight is late) could not end without going to Trastevere, an eclectic neighborhood next to the Tiber, close to the Vatican. There is the ideal place to dine and have fun after visiting so many beautiful things in Rome, full of narrow alleys and street performers. The heart of this neighborhood is the Piazza di Santa Maria in Trastevere (“Square of St Mary in Trastevere”), where there are great restaurants. At this point, let’s enjoy a nice dinner before heading to the airport and leaving this beautiful country.
