Where to sleep in Rome while traveling by car?
Rome is a huge city and offers excellent accommodation options, even for those traveling by car. However, some hotels are in the historic center, within ZTLs and getting a fine there can be easier than slipping in the snow. So, today, I bring you a very special post: where to sleep in Rome traveling by car. Here at Your Travel to Italy with Ana Patricia you make the trip of your dreams !!! ALSO: see our “Accommodation in Italy – Tips for your holidays!”
Our introduction
Rome is the capital of Italy and also of the Lazio region. Immensely, it is a city that offers several accommodation options, even outside the historic center. By the way, a piece of advice: if you are traveling by car, choose a hotel a little further away but close to a metro station, as you can leave your car parked at the hotel and continue your journey on the metro. Remember that…
Rome is a big city, and its traffic can be quite complicated, especially for those who are not used to the chaos of vehicle traffic in big cities. With that in mind, today I bring you a brief list of excellent hotels for those who have rented a car and are going to spend a few days in the Eternal City. Discover our Section: Driving in Italy!
Important to Know…
Rome is one of the cities that charges the most for a space in a private car park: around 20 euros per day, and some hotels also charge for separate parking, so before leaving your car parked at the hotel, ask if the amount is already included in the rate or if there is a discount for guests. Find out here: Where to park in Rome?
Is it worth renting a car to visit Rome?
With cruel honesty, the answer is no! But I’ll explain why: traffic in Rome is chaotic, even for those who are used to it! Remembering: Rome has the traffic of a big city, obviously, so I suggest that, as far as possible, you avoid renting a car, especially if you are not going to leave the city. However, it is important to remember that Rome is one of the gateways for tourists from outside Europe, so it is one of the cities that is usually the first city visited upon arrival in Italy, so renting a car there can be easier since you can pick it up and drop it off at the airport than picking it up in another city. Why isn’t it worth it?
Because Rome offers a great public transport structure, in addition to being very affordable, it’s good to remember that local residents also use and abuse buses and subways; that is, you may find it difficult to move around during peak hours city, both in the morning – between 7:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. – and in the afternoon – between 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.).
So, if you want to use public transport in Rome and take it more “empty,” avoid these times, because outside of them the city is very quiet (don’t forget that, after all, you are in Rome!) if there are no events in the city. Also read about road signs in Italy!
But it’s always good to remember…
…that if you are in Rome, you want to move to other regions, and you don’t want to use public transport, especially because of your luggage, or you have children or people with limited mobility, renting a car can be a great option, so I suggest you choose a hotel with parking. Reinforcement: beware of hotels within the ZTLs.
