The best of Cinque Terre
Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore form the famous Cinque Terre (“Five Lands”). The cities are small, charming and enchant even the most demanding eyes. Today, we will tell you everything you need to know to make your trip to Cinque Terre unforgettable! Let’s get to our Post of the day: The best of Cinque Terre? Here at Your Travel to Italy with Ana Patriciayou make the trip of your dreams!!! ALSO: see our “Accommodation in Italy – Tips for your holidays!”
Bathed by the Mediterranean Sea, the Cinque Terre definitely won over tourists! On the Ligurian Riviera, the cities of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore have become popular and attract thousands of tourists every year. Cinque Terre is the type of destination for those who want fantastic places, natural beauty, sea, fresh breeze, enogastronomy and more, much more. Cinque Terre are ideal for all types of tourists and today we will tell you everything you need to know for your trip to Cinque Terre to be unforgettable. First, choose your base city. Why is it important? Because a good base city will make it much easier to get around. The cities are not far from each other nor very large, so it is very easy to get around, but if you want to travel to a bigger city, it is better to choose a city with a train station, it will make your life a lot easier! Do a lot of research, in advance, without haste, ask for the opinion of friends who already know Cinque Terre and choose a city that has to do with your style! If you like to go out at night, there is no point in staying in a city that “sleeps early”, right? Once again, do a lot of research before choosing the city to stay.
- A great option outside the Cinque Terre is La Spezia. The city is lovely and well served when it comes to get around, mainly by sea and train.
- Did you know that Trenitalia is the main Italian company dedicated to the management of railway transport? Also find out “What is the difference between trains in Italy?”. Would you like to save? So buy your ticket online in advance and save a lot, read the Post “How to buy a train ticket in Italy?“.
Also, remember to choose a hotel well located in your chosen city. Even due to the size of the cities, there are not thousands of options, but searching and getting information, before making a reservation, can save you from falling into a trap. Remember that a hotel in the center may cost a little more, but in return, you will save on transportation. There is no point in paying an amount for a night in a hotel a little further away and spending the amount you saved with a taxi, for example. Therefore, it is important to do your math and see if the savings are effective! Read our Special Post, Where to sleep in Cinque Terre? and visit our Section on Accommodation in Italy!

Whatever your chosen city: get ready to walk, a lot! Really! So, if you go during the summer, remember to wear comfortable shoes, light clothes and sunscreen, even if the weather is overcast. Cities are endless up and down, but worth every sore muscle! (laughs)
Power Bank for Cell Phone
It is also important to bring a power bank to the cell phone. You will probably spend all day on the street and the cell phone battery may not last. For our next tips, believe me, you will need it! If possible, and even better, take your good old camera! You will not regret it!
Be sure to organize a boat trip. The cities seem to be even more beautiful viewed from the sea and, therefore, a boat trip through the Cinque Terre is something unmissable and, without a doubt, unforgettable! How about a Sunset Boat Trip in the Cinque Terre? Click here to learn more!
Seafood and Vineyards
One more thing you need to know: tasting very fresh seafood is something you can’t miss! If you are not a fan, no problem, but if you are from the group that likes to eat fish: be sure to try it! Also, be sure to visit the vineyards, as it is another very nice tour! Some wineries in the region offer incredible tours to tourists. Usually they are at the top of the hill, which offers us a FANTASTIC view of the sea!
Spending a day at the beach is another necessary experience in Cinque Terre. The calm sea, the crystal-clear water and the breeze that seems to caress our skin make us forget, even, all the problems! They will be delicious and, without a doubt, unforgettable moments!
Do you know those WONDERFUL pictures that we see on social networks? Well, we will give you the golden path for you to take incredible photos around the Cinque Terre. Shall we?
1) The best of Cinque Terre – RIOMAGGIORE
In Riomaggiore, the colors of the houses are visible, mainly, from the sea, but if you are on land and want a breathtaking photo with a view to the top, that is, the beach, you can go down to the sea through a small alley to the port. Along the main road you will find the typical boats of the city that can also provide us with amazing photos!
Getting to the end, in front of the slide that takes the boats to the sea, you find a staircase; going up, on the left, you reach the top! Once there, just take the line (yes, everyone wants a photo in this magical place!) and wait for your turn, give a nice smile and ‘ecco’: photo is ready! The best time is sunset, but I don’t even have to say it’s when there are more people around, right?

2) The best of Cinque TerreCinque Terre – MANAROLA
In Manarola, the ‘hot spot’ is Nessun Dorma, another point that is full of people looking for the perfect click! There is also the perfect spot for an aperitif in the late afternoon, or before lunch; whatever the chosen time, the beauty there is sublime!

3) The best of Cinque Terre – VERNAZZA
In Vernazza, you will find more options for incredible photos, because the city is more ‘concentrated’ and meets the sea in a more ‘intimate’ way, offering us an incredible perspective. One of the best places is the pier; here you have a beautiful view of the Medieval Church, on the left, and the castle, on the right, which rises and dominates the landscape.

4) The best of Cinque Terre – MONTEROSSO
Monterosso is divided in two by a rocky promontory that can be crossed by a tunnel or reached by a very peaceful, paved path, from where we can enjoy a wonderful view. However, the most photographed spot in the city is the one that is halfway to the sandy beach that emerges from the crystal-clear waters.
5) The best of Cinque Terre – CORNIGLIA
This village is closer to the territory than to the sea, with an appearance more similar to that of urban centers in the countryside, with lower houses. The village extends along Via Fieschi, houses overlooking the street on one side and the other overlooking the sea. Be sure to register here the special photo of the sunset that is simply WONDERFUL!

- Sharpen your eyes while walking around the cities, sometimes we miss out on fantastic panoramas and we don’t even realize it, don’t get the fixed idea of photographing only the points mentioned above, cities have much more to offer us!
