Base City

First, choose your base city. Why is it important? Because a good base city will make it much easier to get around. The cities are not far from each other nor very large, so it is very easy to get around, but if you want to travel to a bigger city, it is better to choose a city with a train station, it will make your life a lot easier! Do a lot of research, in advance, without haste, ask for the opinion of friends who already know Cinque Terre and choose a city that has to do with your style! If you like to go out at night, there is no point in staying in a city that “sleeps early”, right? Once again, do a lot of research before choosing the city to stay.

A great option outside the Cinque Terre is La Spezia. The city is lovely and well served when it comes to get around, mainly by sea and train.

1) The best of Cinque Terre – RIOMAGGIORE

In Riomaggiore, the colors of the houses are visible, mainly, from the sea, but if you are on land and want a breathtaking photo with a view to the top, that is, the beach, you can go down to the sea through a small alley to the port. Along the main road you will find the typical boats of the city that can also provide us with amazing photos!

Getting to the end, in front of the slide that takes the boats to the sea, you find a staircase; going up, on the left, you reach the top! Once there, just take the line (yes, everyone wants a photo in this magical place!) and wait for your turn, give a nice smile and ‘ecco’: photo is ready! The best time is sunset, but I don’t even have to say it’s when there are more people around, right?

2) The best of Cinque TerreCinque Terre – MANAROLA

In Manarola, the ‘hot spot’ is Nessun Dorma, another point that is full of people looking for the perfect click! There is also the perfect spot for an aperitif in the late afternoon, or before lunch; whatever the chosen time, the beauty there is sublime!

3) The best of Cinque Terre – VERNAZZA

In Vernazza, you will find more options for incredible photos, because the city is more ‘concentrated’ and meets the sea in a more ‘intimate’ way, offering us an incredible perspective. One of the best places is the pier; here you have a beautiful view of the Medieval Church, on the left, and the castle, on the right, which rises and dominates the landscape.

4) The best of Cinque Terre – MONTEROSSO

Monterosso is divided in two by a rocky promontory that can be crossed by a tunnel or reached by a very peaceful, paved path, from where we can enjoy a wonderful view. However, the most photographed spot in the city is the one that is halfway to the sandy beach that emerges from the crystal-clear waters.

5) The best of Cinque Terre – CORNIGLIA

This village is closer to the territory than to the sea, with an appearance more similar to that of urban centers in the countryside, with lower houses. The village extends along Via Fieschi, houses overlooking the street on one side and the other overlooking the sea. Be sure to register here the special photo of the sunset that is simply WONDERFUL!
