The particularly mild climate and exuberant vegetation are the attraction of numerous tourists who, at all times of the year, come to visit, in addition to the various seaside resorts. Nature, culture and nightlife: nothing is missing. There are many places to visit during a trip in Liguria, and with this article, we hope to suggest some destinations that you may not have known about. What are the 10 must-see places in Liguria?
1) Why visit Liguria? GET TO KNOW GENOA
The attractions of Liguria are many, we start with the main city of Genoa, a city that you should definitely visit, for its attractions, starting with the notorious Aquarium, and then we stop at the interesting historic center. I would like to remind you that it is one of the largest and most beautiful from Europe. Today, even keeping the industrial tradition alive, it is an established cultural, scientific, musical and university historical center.
It has the city’s major tourist attractions such as the Cathedral of San Lorenzo, the Ducal Palace, UNESCO heritage sites such as the New Roads and the Rolli Palace System, Castle D’Albertis and much more. There are numerous palaces called Palazzi dei Rolli, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Genoa we find some of the most beautiful palaces in Europe, authentic treasures, often still used as private residences.
2) Why visit Liguria? GET TO KNOW CAMOGLI
Another place you must visit is Camogli, known as the city of lovers. Here couples can enjoy romantic walks by the sea.
While walking through the streets of this magnificent town, don’t forget to try the delicious sweets called camogliesi. Camogli is an old maritime village, when it catches your eye, you will immediately see the presence of the colorful buildings that face the sea… jaw dropping!
3) Why visit Liguria? GET TO KNOW PORTOFINO
Being in Liguria, you should visit Portofino, an international tourist destination and a charming village, of real beauty and not the result of advertising campaigns, precisely because of this it would be necessary to take advantage of this fascination in less crowded periods. Portofino is the first town you will find on the Gulf of Tigullio, it is a very renowned tourist resort, both in summer and in winter, in the square near the port it is easy to find tourists and famous characters from all over the world.
A true corner of paradise, you will discover a harmonious success of characteristic Mediterranean vegetation. You must visit the Church of San Giorgio and the Brown Castle, from which you can enjoy a truly extraordinary view of Portofino. A unique and mandatory place for those who decide to spend incredible moments in these parts of Liguria.
4) Why visit Liguria? GET TO KNOW CINQUE TERRE
As this region offers a rich panorama of opportunities, we will see what you cannot miss. I am referring to the mythical Five Lands (Cinque terre) with Portovenere and the Islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto are the other UNESCO site that boasts to Liguria. Those who visit these places can hardly forget the fascination and atmosphere emanating from the five maritime villages of Manarola, Riomaggiore, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso, eighteen kilometers of coastline that come together and form a small terrestrial paradise.
About Cinque Terre
In these small villages, the sea is uncontaminated, the rocks are leaning towards the sea, the colors and perfumes in the Five Lands will make you feel like you are traveling on a living postcard. The Five Lands is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. And we have the islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto located opposite Portovenere, an old fishing village, with their colorful houses, one next to the other, which mix their colors with the intense blue of the sea, a wonder of nature. Visiting the Five Lands is like taking a trip on a beautiful living postcard. The Five Lands is a UNESCO world heritage site, it is made up of five towns along the Ligurian coast in northern Italy.
These small towns are Monterosso AL Mare, Vernazza, Manartola, Corniglia and Riomaggiore, and each of these hides natural and cultural treasures that are absolutely unmissable. These areas need a few days to be admired, for their totality and all their beauty. If it is not possible to stay for more than 24 hours, I advise you to at least take a walk on the famous “The Street of Love”. The “Blue Trail” is a wonderful way to walk from town to town along the cliffs of the Five Lands.
Manarola and Riomaggiore
The route between Manarola and Riomaggiore is called “the street of love”, one of the most romantic places in the country, a perfect place for a walk with your partner or for a proposal at sunset. The blue trail runs along the coast and covers the entire stretch of Riomaggiore to Monterosso, which takes about 1h30min. The route of love, on the other hand, is the Riomaggiore-Manarola route that can be covered in 20/40 minutes according to speed.
Along the way you will find some plaques carved into the rock with the names of great lovers of history or people who sacrificed themselves for love, such as Heros, Penelope and others. It is the ideal place for lovers, for the suggestive route along the sea where the sun rays dance is unmissable. Anywhere you look you will have an exciting view. Even if it is a 5-star hotel or an inn, it will be satisfying for the panorama below you, which from any view makes us appreciate the Five Lands, from the sea to the mountains. And if you can’t find accommodation in Cinque Terre, don’t be afraid, you’ll find it in the nearest cities like Levanto and La Spezia, which are just a short train ride away. It is natural that in addition to these places there are many others, such as Alassio, Santa Margherita Ligure, Sanremo, but these you will only discover by coming here!
