1) Neighborhoods in Rome: where to stay? HISTORIC CENTER

If you are passionate about art and want a trip to Rome for knowledge, you are in the right place, because the city is rich in history and culture. So, my advice is to stay in the historic center, where you have everything close at hand, such as the most important Roman museums. (If you are passionate about art and would like to stay in the center where you can move around walking, as well as having countless possibilities for places to have lunch / dinner or a snack, I advise you to stay in the historic center.

Regions near the Trevi Fountain, the Coliseum, the Roman Forum, the Imperial Forum and the Villa Borghese, Piazza Spagna  and Piazza Navona  can be considered as “historic center”. These are the most expensive areas, but you will be close to everything, literally!

2) Neighborhoods in Rome: where to stay? VATICAN CITY

Rome is also a symbol of Christianity; therefore, it also shows its religious as well as artistic side. Also read What to do in Rome in 3 days? In this case, the area of interest must be the Vatican City – Independent State, located in the central region of Rome and the headquarters of the Pope.

About the Region

It is a region with good access, where there are trams, buses and subways, which allows tourists to stroll peacefully. It is possible to depart from St. Peter’s Square – the incredible square surrounded by Bernini’s fascinating colonnade – where the majestic St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums are. The museum is a large complex of collections of extreme artistic-religious importance, where the most illustrious works of the great Italian artists are housed, such as Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, Raffaello’s rooms and other significant works by Giotto and Leonardo.

3) Neighborhoods in Rome: where to stay? TERMINI STATION

For those who prefer to stay in neighborhoods that have good access to the rest of the city and at a better price, then you should choose accommodation in the surroundings of Termini station (from where a dense network of public means of transport leaves, serving both the local people tourists). Therefore, among all the regions of Rome, one of the most central is, without a doubt, that of Termini – the train station that until today is the most important meeting point of all Italian lines.

About the Region

The area around Termini is also suitable for those who love to get around on foot, especially if you are only staying for a weekend in Rome. With just a few minutes’ walk, it is possible to access, for example, the Coliseum and the Imperial Forums. In addition to the train line, the two subway lines (which run through the city underground) and the dense bus line (which depart from both Piazza dei Cinquecento and the stop in front of the station) also pass through Termini.

Termini Station intermediaries

When I say “Termini station intermediaries”, I mean mainly the area in front of Piazza del Cinquecento (see map, located at Termini station), close to the Repubblica metro region (also in front of Termini), Castro Pretorio metro (at right of the station), and the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore (to the left of Termini); however, it would avoid the surroundings of the Vittorio Emanuele metro (on the left side of Termini). See the following link and I advise you to print it: Metro Roma

For those who want to find more economical alternatives in quiet areas, but at the same time close to the means of transport to the center, I suggest the region of San Giovanni (near the metro stations San Giovanni, Castro Pretorio and Circus Massimo) – which is a neighborhood more residential; therefore, more economical and quiet! And with only 15 minutes by subway you will be in the center too! Here’s the tip.
