Palazzo Feroci: a true experience in Pisa
The inn offers a Pisa experience: it makes you feel at home! I noticed this as soon as I arrived at the place and the feeling is really impressive! Palazzo Feroci is, in fact, an elegant inn, with incredible facilities and options for all tastes and budgets.
The location
A stone’s throw from Piazza dei Miracoli, home to the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa, it is also close to Piazza dei Cavalieri and Ponte di Mezzo, center of Pisa’s main historical events.
The inn is located in a historic palace in the center of Pisa and offers guests a splendid layout between the rooms and apartments available. The apartments are divided into three categories: Deluxe, Junior Suites and Suites.
All of them are very well lit, welcoming, and tastefully decorated; the details are impressive: everything has been designed to make you feel, in fact, at home!
The structure
The palace where the inn is located is elegantly decorated with 19th century frescoes that you can see from almost every room. The furniture has warm colors, which perfectly harmonize with several modern and interesting details such as, for example, the wallpapers, the impeccable bathrooms, and all the modern facilities present in all the rooms.
Tradition and modernity, here, meet in a magical, poetic and very interesting way. The beauty of the place is magnanimous and it catches our eyes without any effort. The exposed beams and the Tuscan terracotta floors enchant and make us understand the preciousness of Palazzo Feroci.
The inn also features an automatic check-in and check-out system, which offers guests privacy and autonomy, facilitating access to the place and reinforcing the idea that you are truly at home!
A little about the palace
The origins of the Palace where the inn is located date back to 1500, when Cosimo I de Medici, who was Grand Duke of Tuscany, established the Sacred Military Order of the Knights of Santo Stefano in Pisa. In this way, Piazza dei Cavalieri ended up becoming the center of gravity of Pisa Medicea, and the historic Palazzo Feroci was divided into two “tower houses”, one of which was the seat of the Taù, trusted men of the Order of Santo Stefano.
The palace underwent restoration, but kept original traces, giving the place all the charm that we can see today. One of these incredible vestiges is on a plaque with the Greek letter of Taù on the façade, which faces the church of San Sisto. This confirms the old descriptions of the records of the Order of Santo Stefano and that mark the beginning of the history of Palazzo Feroci.
Current look
The current look of Palazzo Feroci is the result of later interventions that were carried out between the end of the 18th century and the first half of the 19th century, as we can see in the internal decorations on the walls and on the coffered ceilings, impeccably restored by experts.
In 1876, with the end of the Order of the Knights of Santo Stefano, the property passed to the Feroci family and, in the 20th century, it became the property of the University of Pisa, legally signed in the will of Mrs. Maria Feroci, dated 20 May 1940.
Currently, the palace presents itself with touches of art-nouveau alluding to the first two decades of the last century.
Renovation
In 2021 the inn underwent a new renovation, but always maintaining its original essence. In some rooms there are decorative elements such as tiled and terracotta stoves and, in the apartment located on the top floor, it is possible to make the most of the typical terrace, which is covered over the roofs, offering guests a breathtaking panorama.
