Introduction

In the 19th century, English and Germans fell in love with the island and began to frequent it; the news of the beauty of the place attracted more people and the fishermen saw there the tourist opportunity that the place could offer. Conclusion: they started to rent boats for trips around the island and tourism started to grow with the construction of hotels, restaurants and shops. The city was also the summer residence of Tiberius, son of Emperor Augustus; the mansion used by him, today is just ruins. Our Tour of the Day

How to get to Capri? You can reach Capri mainly from the port of Naples and from Sorrento with the Ferry boat. If you only have one day to visit Capri, either because you are arriving with a cruise ship at the port of Naples, or because you are staying in Naples, or other cities on the Amalfi Coast, I advise you to take the following tour.  Read our post Where to sleep in Capri?

1) What to visit in Capri in one day? VISIT THE GROTTOES WITH A BOAT TOUR

  • From 9:00 am to 11:00 am – The visit to the island starts from the Port of Capri, Marina Grande, from where boats leave for the Blue Grotto, famous for the small entrance of one meter high by two meters wide and the color of the water. From the port there are also boat trips to admire the island from the sea (this tour can be done if it is not possible to visit the Blue Grotto due to high tide), where we can see the White and Coral Grottoes and, especially, the Faraglioni , the other symbol of the island (together with the Blue Grotto), which are the famous three stones in the middle of the sea with the Arch of Love in the Faraglione di Mezzo.

Island tour with stop at the Blue Grotto

  • Duration: About 2 hours

I advise the following Tours:

2) What to visit in Capri in one day? VISIT ANACAPRI

  • From 12:00 pm to 02:00 pm – In Capri we will find only two cities, Capri and Anacapri. Therefore, returning the tour with the boat, we will take a minivan, taxi or public bus and we will go to Anacapri, getting there, we will take the cable car to go to the highest point which is Mount Solaro, the famous viewpoint of Anacapri. From Mount Solaro, you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the Gulf of Naples and Salerno.
  • After the wonderful photos, you can choose to descend to Anacapri with the cable car or on foot, stopping at the hermitage of Cetrella.

Attention

  • The descent on foot takes about half an hour and I advise you only if you have a very comfortable shoe and it is not a very hot day, otherwise I think it is better to avoid it!

Cable car to climb to Mt Solaro

  • Duration: 12 minutes
  • Price: € 10 (roundtrip)
  • Hours: From March to October from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm; from November to February from 10:30 am to 03:00 pm.

3) What to visit in Capri in one day? VISIT CAPRI ATTRACTIONS

From 02:00 pm onwards – The island tour continues in the city of Capri. From Anacapri to Capri you can always take the bus, arriving in Capri you can admire the famous Piazzetta di Capri (Capri Square), with its small streets and the viewpoint. From Piazzetta you can walk along Via Camerelle (the shopping street in Capri), and continue on to Via Targara, from where you can reach the viewpoint to admire the famous Faraglioni. Unmissable experience !! We will be finishing the day, so we will descend to the Port of Marina Grande from where the Ferries leave for the mainland. These are the activities you can do peacefully if you only have one day to visit Capri !!

How to go to Capri?

The main points of the city are the grottoes that surround the island. To get there, only by boat (if you have a few “leftover” euros, you can also go by helicopter!).

How much?

You can get there from the Ports of: Naples, Sorrento, Positano or Ischia. Departing from Naples, the cost of a round trip is approximately 40 Euros per person.

Boarding from Naples

There are two ports in Naples for your boarding:

  • Calata Porta di Massa: the trip takes about 01h20min.
  • Molo Beverello: approximate travel time, 50 minutes.

On the way back, buy a ticket at Marina Grande, in the port of Capri. There is no need to buy tickets in advance; in this link it is possible to check the schedules and other departure ports. The departure frequency is approximately 20 minutes.

Transport options when reaching Capri Marina

Arriving at Marina Grande, you can “go up” the city in several ways:

  • Cable car (the view is MAGNIFICENT!);
  • Walking (go with comfortable shoes!);
  • Taxi (only if you have bags!);
  • Bus (It passes the entire island, including Anacapri. The frequency is every 20 minutes! The view is also impressive!).

To explore the city, do everything on foot. Distances are short and the walk is well worth it! To get around the island to see grottoes, paradisiacal beaches and enjoy the beach, go by boat! It’s the best option and the tour is really worth it!

Important Tips

  • Go with your camera and cell phone charged! Every corner of that place deserves a photo and it is impossible not to be drooling over the DIVINE views that the city offers us!
  • Book your hotel as soon as possible, as Capri is very popular. Read: Where to sleep in Capri

Conclusion

What to see in Capri  in one day? The ideal is to get to know Capri (and Anacapri) with a certain amount of time, but if time is short, it is worth the visit anyway: a magical place, with unique aromas and paradisiacal landscapes!
