One of the most beautiful places is the Scaligero di Sirmione Castle, also home to the Scaligera di Sirmione Fortress, from medieval times. There is a legend that says that a long time ago a couple in love lived in the Castle: Ebengardo and Arice. One night, during a strong storm, a knight asked for shelter in the Castle. With great generosity, Ebengardo welcomed the stranger and, during the night, the man broke into Arice’s room, enchanted by her beauty. Arice started screaming for help and the knight killed her with a knife. When Ebengardo came to the room to save her, it was too late, Arice was dead. They say that even today, on stormy nights, it is possible to hear Ebengardo calling Arice around the Castle. (Wow, so scary!). The Historic Center is incredible! With its characteristic shops and stone streets, it restricts the traffic of motor vehicles which makes the walk extremely safe and quiet for pedestrians. Another point that draws attention and deserves a visit is the Church of St. Anna, next to the Castle and built in 1400.

If you are driving and your hotel is in the historic center, present your reservation to the police officer responsible for access so that he can clear the ticket for you. If you just want to park, there is a parking lot at the entrance to the city, close to the historic center.

The nearest train station is Desenzano del Garda. If you prefer, take the Desenzano del Garda bus, Line 26 (BS) that passes through Verona, Peschiera, Sirmione and Desenzano.
