1) What to do in one day in Venice? VISIT THE DUCAL PALACE

We start from the Doge’s Palace, with a reservation made in advance, of course, to avoid long lines. It is the symbolic place of Venice, since it is the seat of the Doge and the government. The two main facades are a beautiful example of Gothic-Venetian style, there is the bell tower with the Moors, called the Clock Tower, where two sculptures depict the Moors that mark the hours. 2) What to do in one day in Venice? VISIT THE ST. MARK’S BASILICA

Another must-see is St. Mark’s Basilica, which is not only the most important church in Venice, but has also been the city’s cathedral since 1807; in addition to being the seat of the Patron. The Basilica is an excellent example of the Romanesque-Byzantine style with five domes, built to house the body of Mark, the Evangelist.

Its frontage, where there are five portals, is decorated with precious marble and mosaics, and divided into two parts by a terrace, where the four golden copper horses sent from Constantinople to Doge Enrico Dandolo, in 1204 rest (copies of the originals are in the interior). Of particular interest are mosaics of Veneto-Byzantine origin, some of them reconstructed from drawings by Titian, Tintoretto and Veronese, the beautiful mosaics in the atrium tell the stories of the Bible.

The Bell Tower

The Bell Tower, next to the basilica, was once a lighthouse for sailors. Inside you find a huge Greek Cross; the interior is large and is full of paintings and sculptures. Mosaics and floors are grand enough to be used as a motivation to visit the Basilica.

3) What to do in one day in Venice? WALK IN THE ST. MARK’S SQUARE

Since we are close, St. Mark’s Square deserves to be admired and seen from different perspectives, it is mandatory a walk to admire its beauty. Over the years, St. Mark’s Square has earned a well-deserved place among the most beautiful and important squares in the world, and every year there are many tourists flocking to the square. It consists of three areas which are: St. Mark’s Square, a smaller St. Mark’s Square and the Lion’s Square. This magnificent place is surrounded by the old ‘Procuratie’ (imposing buildings) and ‘new’, and this is where you will find the main monuments of the Square.

St. Mark’s Basilica reflects a splendid marble facade in the square. If you want to take a short break, a snack and not look at the cost (TRUST ME!), do it in one of the historic cafes in St. Mark’s Square, where you can breathe the magical atmosphere that only this ‘lagoon city’ can offer you. Now take the ‘vaporetto‘ to taste the true essence of Venice and discover the Grand Canal, which divides the city into two parts. Navigating the Grand Canal, you will pass magnificent palaces, churches and under the famous Rialto Bridge until you reach St. Mark’s Square again. A tour on the Grand Canal is necessary once you’re in Venice because it is the place where history was made and where the palpable beauty of the lagoon is. A unique place, along with Paris and Rome.
