It stretches from Piazza San Lorenzo (San Lorenzo Square), on Via dell’Ariento, and surrounds the Church of St Lawrence, located in the historic center of Florence that runs from Via Nazionale almost to the Cathedral. Among the stalls in the Mercato San Lorenzo you can find hats, clothes, leather goods, jewelry, belts, wallets, many leather items, many products and gadgets for all tourists who wish to buy a souvenir of their visit to Florence. Always in the San Lorenzo area, we find the Mercato Centrale, located between Via dell’Ariento, Via Sant’Antonino, Via Panicale and Piazza del Mercato Centrale. This market is still in the Loggia del Porcellino, built in the mid-16th century by Tasso, where it was used, at the time, as a market. The Loggia del Porcellino bears this name because on one side of the structure is located the Porcellino, a bronze boar with a fountain. Tradition says that touching his nose brings luck, so around this bronze statue, hundreds of tourists stop every day to put a coin in the mouth of the statue after rubbing his nose. When the coin falls into the water network, it is said to be a good sign.
