The Palace of Venaria was commissioned by Duke Carlos Emanuele II and was built between 1658 to 1679; the name came from the city of Venatio Regia, which comes from Latin and means ‘art of hunting’. Next to the Palace there was a forest almost 100 kilometers long, where the court men hunted and made banquets. The restoration of the Palace only took place in the 90s and lasted almost 10 years. It was reopened, in all its splendor, in 2007. Today it has 50 rooms open for visitation.
