1) Test Drive in Maranello? GET TO KNOW THE HISTORY OF FERRARI

The whole story began in 1929, when Enzo Ferrari founded the Scuderia Ferrari in the city of Maranello. In the beginning, the brand sponsored drivers and race cars already manufactured and its independent production only began in 1946, with the creation of the Ferrari 125S, with a V12 engine and the debut was marked, and celebrated, with the victory in the Grand Prix of Rome, in 1947. In 1948, the brand’s first commercial car, the 166 Inter, was released. Already involved in the world of major automobile competitions, Ferrari achieved its first victory in Formula 1 in 1951 and then in 1956, with the legendary driver Juan Manuel Fangio, who won the world championship. However, as life is not a bed of roses, the 60s were not the best for Maranello’s company. Read also: Shall we get to know the Motorcycle and Car Museums in Italy?

Ford

The American corporation Ford even tried to buy Scuderia, as it already glimpsed the manufacturer’s potential in automotive competitions, but negotiations did not follow for a long time. Ford then created the iconic Ford GT40, which put an end to Ferrari’s hegemony in the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans. At the end of the decade, in 1969, and already with the name change, Ferrari SpA, the Ferrari family sold 50% of the shares to Fiat, which currently holds 90% of the shares of the luxury manufacturer.

The death of Enzo Ferrari

The death of Enzo Ferrari, in 1988, at the age of 90, left the brand’s legacy to Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, a former employee and close friend of the founder. Early in his command, he decided to invest in the team and this resulted in the second place in Formula 1 for Ferrari, which was driven by Michael Schumacher.

Its Powerful and Valuable Machines

Since its founding, Ferrari has released approximately 70 models. In 2015, during the disclosure of future plans for the brand, it was announced that there would be the creation of special editions of the car, the continuation of the brand customization program and Formula 1. Ferrari sells about 7,500 cars per year and the best-selling model in 2017 was the Ferrari 488 GTB. The price? Approximately 2.5 million BRL! The iconic car of the brand is the Ferrari Testarossa and the most expensive car in the world, sold at auction, was a 1953 Ferrari 340/375 MM Berlinetta ‘Competizione’: the car cost 12.8 million dollars!

Some curiosities

Find out now some facts about Maranello and about Ferrari that, perhaps, you didn’t know.

Former Location

Before Ferrari moved permanently to Maranello, its location was where the Enzo Ferrari Museum is now located. The site is hundreds of meters from the Maserati company, Ferrari’s main rival in the Modena region. In the past, there was a “battle” where one tried to steal ideas from the other by sending people to intern at the competitor company; today both live in peace!

Recognition

Ferrari brand is recognized around the world and is greatly influenced by the choice of nationality of the season driver; however, despite the fact that Ferrari only had two main Brazilian drivers, Rubens Barrichello and Felipe Massa, the Brazilians form the biggest Ferrari fans in the world! And Ferrari really likes them: it invests heavily in new generation drivers like Enzo Fittipaldi.

Theme park

Ferrari has a WONDERFUL theme park in Abu Dhabi; is a theme park designed by Benoy Architects in 2005 and has an outer circumference of 2,200 meters, with a total area of 200,000 square meters! The structure has a test track, a theater, 20 attractions related to the brand, 3D cinema, a historic car gallery, and much more! It’s fantastic!

Ferrari Colors

Ferrari is called ‘Maranello’s red, but Ferrari red doesn’t have a ‘unique’ red as many people think and only 45% of the cars sold by the brand are red! Ferrari customers’ favorite colors are black and yellow! Some say, wrongly, that the official Ferrari color is yellow and not red; This is because the background of the brand’s shield symbol is yellow, that’s why many people confuse it, but the official color of the brand is bright red.

The Ferrari Horse

By the way, the famous prancing horse was originally the symbol of Count Francesco Baracca, a legendary ace of the Italian air force during World War I. He proudly carried the emblem on the side of his plane and Ferrari decided to honor him!

About Sales

Enzo Ferrari did NOT want to sell cars, only to build them for competitions, but the car was so successful that, little by little, his team decided to open up car sales to the public. The rest is history: it became something people dream of buying!

Ferrari V.I.P.

Ferrai has sold ALL 499 possible prototypes of the hybrid model called the LaFerrari, equipped with a 6.3-liter V12 engine that develops an output of 950 horsepower BEFORE the car is presented to the public. Each one paid 1.4 million dollars for the vehicle that hasn’t even left the drawboard! Remember that Ferrari only sells its top-of-the-line models to guest customers.
