Neighborhoods in Milan: where to stay?

Milan is one of the most important cities in Italy and one of the most amazing cities in Europe. It is the city with the largest number of inhabitants, after Rome, and the most populous metropolitan area. It is considered the capital of the economy in Italy (for its industrial and financial poles), the center of publishing and information, and is also considered a great industrial model; Milan is also a world reference in fashion and graphic design – not to mention its rich artistic and cultural heritage. Anyone coming to the capital of Lombardy will certainly need a help to find the ideal hotel, since the variety of hotels in Milan is great.  Lets go to our post: Neighborhoods in Milan: where to stay? But: Here at Your Travel to Italy with Ana Patricia you make the trip of your dreams!!! ALSO: see our “Accommodation in Italy – Tips for your holidays!”

Introduction

The city has a good receptive capacity, also for its years of experience hosting great shows and concerts (with national and international productions), sport (with important competitions, finals and several sports), and events in general (cultural spectacles, special presentations and professional conventions – like, for example, the famous Expo 2015). The city of Milan is rich in exclusive luxury hotels, large hotel chains, apart-hotels, 3 star hotels, family accommodation, inns, campsites, hostels, rooms for rent and holiday homes. In general, both for business and leisure, Milan has the right accommodation! Also read: Accommodation in Italy!

Good to know…

In order to be more comfortable and to make the city tour faster, I suggest you to find an accommodation near the subway and/or downtown. If you prefer nature and calmness, the province of Milan offers a wide variety of accommodation near the city center.

Today we will see what the options are and which region you can choose to make your stay in Milan even more special. It is good to remember that the city extends over 182 km², so it is appropriate to consider the various regions in the city before choosing your hotel; this way, you will find the best accommodation for you in Milan: it could be downtown, near the Duomo Square, or maybe in the charming Navigli. 1) Neighborhoods in Milan: where to stay? MALPENSA AND LINATE

Let’s start with the Malpensa and Linate regions, the airport zones. Linate and Malpensa are very near the two main airports in Milan. In Linate, there are a dozen receptive structures, mainly four to five stars. Prices are certainly abusive, but service and comfort are guaranteed, with proper places to welcome illustrious and important personalities.

Malpensa airport (Milan’s official and international airport) is the most important in Lombardy. Choosing to stay in Malpensa or Linate means that you will stay close to the main airports, and – at the same time – you are going to be optimally served by the main city center. It is definitely ideal for short stays and business trips.

2) Neighborhoods in Milan: where to stay? DUOMO’S AREA

One of the most charming Milanese regions: Duomo! Is where the cathedral and symbol of the city is, as well the homonymous Square that is watched over by the golden statue of Our Lady of Conception, the famous Madonnina. The heart of the historic center, it is the base of some of Milan’s most characteristic buildings, capable of bringing to our mind images and scenes from other times.

This region is also perfect for those who love traditional coffee shops, trendy bars or for those who are always looking for novelties and want to ‘follow the trends’. Tourists, businessmen and Milanese cross the Piazza Duomo every hour, every day, 24/7! Next to the square it is possible to see the Galleria Vittorio Emmanuelle II, with its 19th century arches. Beautiful!

Half of the elite shopping is on the east side; on the north side you can find the famous Scalla Theater. The Piazza Duomo’s region is equipped with two subway lines, which make this region even more practical for those looking for easy transports options.

Another region to consider is the Historic Center of Milan, a tangle of enchanting streets. The so-called “Fashion Quadrilateral”, is the ideal place for shopping in Milan, with its famous streets: Montenapoleone, Manzoni, Via della Spiga and Corso Venezia (and, plus, the Santo Spirito, Gesù and Borgospesso crossings).

Even those who do not have such a fashion crush will hardly remain indifferent to this peace that this region of the city offers. It’s a luxury neighborhood, but with a secret soul, to be explored at the table of a cafeteria or a renowned downtown restaurant.

The Brera neighborhood is famous for its high fashion boutiques, exclusive art galleries and trendy bars – it’s to the north of Piazza Duomo. The characteristic little streets are inviting for a walk without destination. The main attraction is the Pinacoteca of Brera, where priceless works of art are exhibited – among them, masterpieces of Raffaello and Mantegna.
It’s in the southeast region of Brera that you will find the “Fashion Quadrilateral”. The region is visited by VIPs and socialites who spend mountains of money in the brands boutiques such as Armani, Valentino and Versace, in the surroundings of the elegant “Montenapo” (as the Milanese affectionately calls Montenapoleone Street).
