1) Milan International Furniture Fair: Isalone – A little about the Milan International Furniture Fair

The Milan Furniture Fair (Isalone) is a reference in the home and furniture sector, in addition to presenting innovations and equipment for the furniture industry. This fair has been taking place since 1961 and arose out of Italy’s need to have contact with consumers and professionals in the field. With the aim of promoting Italian exports in the furniture sector, the objective was achieved through the quality of the Italian furniture industry: with raw materials of excellent quality, Italian furniture offers – in addition to a characteristic design – superior quality and is highly sought-after by architects, decorators and other professionals from around the world. 2) Milan International Furniture Fair: Isalone – Cosmit (Organizing Committee of the Italian Furniture Fair)

Cosmit (Organizing Committee for the Italian Furniture Fair) was created and the first edition of Salone del Mobile was opened at the Milan Fair. On the occasion, only 328 companies participated in the event in a modest area of 11,860 m²: the fair was a success and they received more than 12 thousand visits, with 800 visitors from outside the country. However, it was only from 1967 that the exhibition became international – in alternate years – and from 1991 onwards, it started to be held every year.

To have an idea of the success of the fair, in 1991 the number of exhibitors increased to 1,959, 258 from abroad – and the exhibition area was 144,000 m²; There were 147,000 visitors, 53,000 of whom were foreigners. In 1994, the Milan Furniture Fair reached another milestone: it succeeded in overcoming the celebrated Koelnmesse – German furniture fair, which until then was the most important, and became a world reference, earning the status of ‘the most important fair’ in the furniture sector. home and furniture. 3) Milan International Furniture Fair: Isalone – When does the International Furniture Fair Event take place in Milan?

The International Furniture Fair takes place every year, always in April, during Design Week at the Milan Fair in Rho. It was organized in the same area as the fair, but since 2005 it started to have its activities in the new headquarters, designed and built by the Italian architect Massimiliano Fuksas. Along with the Salão do Móvel, there is another event in Milan that happens simultaneously, the Fuorisalone.

4) Milan International Furniture Fair: Isalone – What do I find at Salone del Mobile?

The name Salone del Mobile (Furniture Fair) is almost symbolic, as the event also presents appliances and materials (in final and structural products) to visitors. Concepts and prototypes are presented, as well as studies on new technologies and how to bring this into the consumer’s daily life. Anyone who thinks that the fair celebrates only famous designers and brands is wrong: democratic, the fair opens space for new names and brands (still!) Little known. For those who like numbers: in its last edition, in 2019, the fair attracted 2,418 exhibitors, 35% of whom were foreigners and 550 new designers at Salone Satellite (Satellite Fair). The Fair received more than 386 thousand people.

5) Milan International Furniture Fair: Isalone – Edition 2020/21

Due to the COVID19 pandemic, the 2020 edition of Salone del Mobile has been postponed to 2021. It will take place between April 13th and 18th, 2021 and should be very special, since the Fair ‘celebrates’ its 60th anniversary.

The organizers also announced that, in 2021, the Exhibition will include Euroluce (focused on the lighting sector and presenting solutions, innovations and several other products related to the lighting sector) in its exhibition; EuroCucina, Workplace 3.0, FTK, the International Furniture Accessories Exhibition, the International Bathroom Exhibition, the International Decoration Accessories Exhibition, S.Project and the Salone Satellite.

EuroCucina

EuroCucina must follow the trends of Workplace3.0 and, although it is based on the traditional pavilions of the Fair, everything indicates that it will also adopt an extended exhibition format in order to include B2B S.Project, highlighting how spaces are evolving and getting more and more integrated into the living rooms. S.Project deserves special mention, because it opened in 2019 in an incredible way, and brings design products and projects for interior design that combine decorative and technical elements. After the success of the last year, it brings its key words in full force: vision, evolution and technology, following consumer demand. Also read Where to eat in Milan?

Isalone – FTK (Technology for the Kitchen)

FTK (Technology for the Kitchen) comes with the proposal ‘a glimpse of the future’, presenting new types of appliances and with the intention of making kitchens intelligent; Many A.I. (artificial intelligence) and automation proposals are likely to emerge: everything always effective and, of course, sustainable!

Isalone – International Decoration Accessories Exhibition

The International Exhibition of Decoration Accessories and Workplace3.0 set out to explore the various aesthetic avenues, presenting visitors with customizable products made in a sustainable way in ALL of their stages!

International Bathroom Exhibition

The International Bathroom Exhibition will also focus on sustainable responsibility and aims to present cutting-edge ideas aimed at optimizing the consumption of water and energy.

Salone Satellite

The Salone Satellite will introduce us to about 600 new designers! This year’s theme is Project for Our Futures; here new designers are invited to reflect and present solutions for inclusive design. The idea is to offer innovative products that promote a unique, comfortable and efficient experience.

It will be a super event and it is unmissable for professionals in the field.

6) Milan International Furniture Fair: Isalone – The Theme of the Salon in 2020/21

With the world increasingly concerned with sustainability, the Salon set out to present new forms of sustainable design, ranging from raw materials to final production. In search of consonance, new materials and innovations in terms of production, in 2020 the objective of the exhibitors is to invite the visitor to go to the sustainability side, showing that it is possible to unite the care with the environment and the beauty of the furniture in a way harmonious, without harming either one or the other.

Companies and designers promise to bring beautiful pieces using honesty, commitment and transparency in all production processes, committing themselves to making the market a real engine of change for the world. Claudio Luti, director of the Fair, is excited: he believes that the Salon will be the mutation of new ways of producing furniture. He believes that, from now on, the big change will be the type of approach to design and how the piece is manufactured: the more sustainable, the better; and the challenge is almost “to make it beautiful, using little”!

The main focus of the 2020/21 theme

The main focus of the 2020/21 theme is the demand of the next generations, who want products that do not harm the environment, but that are efficient and, of course, beautiful! The search for a better future was placed within the word ‘Beauty’, which was added to the Salone del Mobile Manifesto.

In numbers and, in fact, many companies in the sector have already started on the path of sustainability! In Italy 72% of companies already invest in the reuse of recyclable materials, while 44% use products that have been recycled and 67% of them are committed to the proper procedures for product disposal. Another 49% of companies have already reviewed their energy savings – making significant changes – and 37% of them already use renewable energy sources – such as solar energy.

The Made in Italy

Made in Italy is becoming more human! They no longer want to sell ‘just products’, they want to sell ‘styles’ of innovative productions! Is change possible? Yes! But it is necessary that everyone be part of this’ chain of good ‘: the government needs to offer incentives, consumers must better understand the companies’ proposal and everyone needs to effectively participate in this change: who supplies the raw material, who manufactures, who distributes and who consumes. 7) Milan International Furniture Fair: Isalone – Presentation outside the Convention Center

The 59th edition of the Salone del Mobile di Milano will also take place outside the convention center after the end of the event: from April 21 to May 3, there will be an extraordinary audiovisual installation that will be presented in the Sala delle Cariatidi of Palazzo Reale. There, 10 films from the top 10 Italian filmmakers will be shown. Each director used a word from the Manifesto and interpreted it in his own way, transforming that word into a short film (the word beauty, included this year, is not on the list). They are:

  • Claudio Giovannesi: Culture;
  • Francesca Archibugi: Emotion;
  • Pappi Corsicato: Enterprise;
  • Daniele Ciprì: Milan;
  • Wilma Labate: Design;
  • Stefano Mordini: Quality;
  • Bruno Bozzetto: Networking;
  • Luca Lucini: Communication;
  • Donato Carrisi: Ingenuity;
  • Gianni Canova and a group of Cinematography students from IULM University: Young people.

Scala Theater Foundation

The Scala Theater Foundation reinforces its ties with Milan and promotes the talent of the Philharmonic Orchestra, with an event for the design community to enjoy a unique experience. The directors of the Salon also reinforce that the idea of all events is an expression of Milan’s desire to be environmentally and socially sustainable, for everyone, but mainly for young people. The end of the celebrations at the end of the Salon will be on Friday, April 24 at the Palazzo Marino: a great get-together that will bring together exhibitors, customers and everyone involved in the realization of this very precious event!
