Introduction

Milan has two main airports: Malpensa and Linate. We will talk about Linate airport, which, although smaller, is the one closest to the center, is a few kilometers away and is used mainly for national routes, in addition to some European and intercontinental flights. You may be wondering how to get to the center from Linate airport. The answer is simple and there are several solutions. Find out here How to use the subway in Milan?

A little about Milan …

Milan is the economic and commercial center of Italy and has a long-standing cultural and historical-artistic heritage. There are hundreds of churches, monuments and places of interest that are difficult to summarize in a few lines. Notorious around the world is the Cathedral of Milan, the Vittorio Emanuele II Gallery, the Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci, the Sforzesco Castle, the La Scala Theater, the Basilica of Saint Ambrose, just to mention some of its unmissable beauties. In addition to all this artistic heritage, Milan is also the metropolitan city for antonomasia, the capital of high fashion, business and high finance.

1) How to get to the center of Milan from Linate Airport? WITH A PRIVATE TRANSFER

Before you travel, make your Transfer reservation so you don’t have to worry, as the driver will already be there waiting for you with a poster. That way you won’t have to think about anything, just go quietly and safely to your hotel. The best way to reach the hotel in the center of Milan is by Transfer.

Accessing the link “Transfer Service”, you can get more information about this option. It is safe, comfortable and cost-benefit is excellent! This way, you avoid the exchange of transport to get to the hotel, since the transfer is direct! No stops! The driver speaks English (booking in advance). Not to mention that it makes our lives a lot easier when it comes to bags. Because you imagine carrying bags on other transports, it is not easy, but it is also not impossible. It’s just not comfortable for those who are traveling in order to relax 😉

Note

  • Remember to always check customer testimonials before proceeding with your reservation;)

Advantage

  • It is certainly the least stressful option. Nothing better than arriving after a long trip and finding someone waiting to take you to the hotel without wasting too much time, with a comfortable, clean car and a driver with a friendly smile!

Disadvantage

  • In comparison with the other means that will be presented below, there is no disadvantage, just because you know that your peace of mind, security and satisfaction with the contracted service are worth the amount paid. With the transfer you will not have to worry about consulting maps, nor be afraid to make “wrong” choices regarding the means of transport.

2) How to get to the center of Milan from Linate Airport? WITH THE BUS (PRIVATE OR PUBLIC)

Another solution is to go from the airport to the city center with public transport, you can count on several possibilities that provide comfortable solutions for all the requirements of travelers, tourists, businessmen and workers who arrive in the metropolitan city every day.

Attention

If you are landing at Linate Airport for the first time, please note that, unlike other airports in the city, Enrico Forlanini di Linate Airport is the nearest stopover in the city and is only seven kilometers from the center of Milan. On this stopover most of the flights of lines operated by airlines that come and go from the main national and international destinations arrive and depart. The traffic of people is very consistent and, despite not having direct connections to the subway and trains, the services offered are able to satisfy the volume of travelers in transit.

Private Transportation with Air Bus

Among these services are some private transport lines (Air Bus) that allow you to decide when and how to get to Milan from Linate airport. The connections offered by these private shuttles cover several routes, including one that runs from Linate Airport to Milan Central Station (and vice versa). This last destination is one of the most used solutions to get to Milan from the airport, arriving at the Central Station and then you can easily go anywhere in the city, the central station of Milan has two lines of the Milan Metro, railway lines and several trains and city buses.

  • The journey time for the boats is approximately twenty minutes and the ticket can be purchased peacefully when on board.

ATM City Line Buses

Another even more economical choice to get to Milan from Linate airport is to opt for ATM city buses – Azienda di Transporti Milanesi (Companhia de Transportes Milaneses). Bus number 73 departs from Linate airport and arrives at the San Babila area in approximately forty minutes, the ticket is purchased at ATM automatic ticket booths and the X73 express bus does not make intermediate stops between Linate airport and Corso Europa at the subway station San Babila. The journey time is approximately twenty-five minutes and tickets can also be purchased on board.

Advantage

  • This type of transport is very economical, but it is only useful when there are few people, 1 or two people, more than that it is advisable to take a taxi or a private transfer.

Disadvantages

  • The end point is usually the central station of Milan, arriving there, you must take another transport to go to the hotel, that is, you lose a little time, and end up spending more, because the taxi in that region is not cheap! It is also tiring to go down and up stairs with suitcases after a long journey.
  • That is why I advise these two alternatives only for those who are not in a hurry and do not have: many bags, small children or elderly people, because if you arrive with a lot of luggage, it will be really “complicated” to take this type of transport.

My advice

  • Generally, international flights allow large luggage (32 kilos), so if you bring luggage like this it will be really crazy to use the transport above, so be realistic, and use this type of transport only if you have a lot of breath, want to save or if you have normal light luggage. If you are with the family I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT!

3) How to get to the center of Milan from Linate Airport? WITH A TAXI

From two or three people I sincerely advise you to use a taxi or a private driver. There is nothing worse than arriving with many suitcases and spending the most time trying to understand how to get to the city center, then trying to understand how to get to the hotel and, even worse, having to carry several suitcases up stairs, isn’t it? The simplest, the most comfortable, but also the most expensive way is to take one of the many taxis that are at the exit of the airport, and that will take you directly to your destination without the stress of changing means of transport. Sometimes the only drawback is queues that can be very long during peak hours and during Fashion Week.

Attention

  • Attention not to take a clandestine taxi driver, without any kind of permission, O.K.?

Advantage

  • From two people, you can even compensate for taking a taxi, but it is possible that the taxi driver will get you a “sick and tired”, riding more than necessary, once he realizes that you are a tourist and that you have no idea of location where you are going! So always be aware, O.K.?

Disadvantage

  • Find the right, fair and honest taxi driver! From 4 people it is not worth using a taxi, it is more expensive than hiring a transfer.
